Bike Rental - Vélib
Vélib in a short term bike rental service in Paris. The service was put into place during July 2007. The bike hire service is open to visitors as well as locals. These pages explains how visitors to Paris can use this bike rental service.
Bikes are made available via a number of bike stations throughout Paris (see photo). The objective is to ensure that you are never more than 400 metres away from the nearest rental point.
Vélib bike rental is a self service system. Bike rentals and returns as well as the creation of short-term accounts are managed through control panels (see photo) at the bike stations.
Accounts can be set-up for 1 day or 7 days through the control panel with a credit card. A standard fee is charged for account set-up (€1 for 1 day and €5 for 7 days (2007)). Additional fees are charged according to bike rental periods.
Bike Rental Periods (per trip)
- First 30 minutes - FREE
- Second 30 minutes - €1
- Third 30 minutes - €2
- Fourth 30 minutes - €4
For example, a two hour bike rental would cost €7. The system is designed for short-term bike rental of less than one hour. If you wish to rent a bike for a longer period of time then you would be better to contact a private bike hire company.
