Signing up for Vélib

The Vélib system is self service. Short term accounts can be set up with a credit card by using the control panel at any Vélib bike station. Below is a step by step guide to setting up an account.

Orientation

The system does not use a touch screen. All choices are made using the credit card keypad (See photo on right). V is used to confirm certain choices.

Step 1 - Welcome Screen

Press 3 to access the language options screen.

Step 2 - Language Options Screen

Press 2 for English.

Step 3 - Welcome Page in English

Press 2 to set up a new short term account.

Step 4 - Account Creation First Screen

Press 2 to set up a short term account of either 1 or 7 days.

Step 5 - Account Creation Second Screen

Press 1 to request a “ticket” account. The other option is for locals with electronic Metro passes called Navigos.

Step 6 - Type of Account

Press 1 for a 1 day account or 7 for a 7 day account. The charges are for account set up only. Additional fees will be charged to your credit card for rental periods exceeding 30 minutes. See information on fees.

Step 7 - Deposit Authorisation

A credit card pre-authorisation of €150 is required to set up an account. This amount is only charged in the event of a bike not being returned within 24 hours. Press V to continue.

Step 8 - Terms & Conditions

To quickly accept the terms and conditions press 5 to scroll to the end of the text.

Press V to accept the terms and conditions.

Step 9 - Payment

Insert your bank card and follow the instruction on the small screen above the keypad.

Step 10 - Creation of a Vélib PIN Code

A 4 digit PIN code is required to use the Vélib service. This will be used in conjuction with your Vélib Ticket number as identification for bike rental throughout your subscription period.

Enter your pin code using the keypad and press V to confirm.
