As mentioned previously, my girlfriend and I recently set up a small business using the new status of ‘auto-entrepreneur.’ From day one the idea was to sell our ‘thes et tisanes‘ via the street markets in Paris. I am very glad to say that we achieved our goal this weekend when we did our first market at Jean Jaurès in the 19th arrondissement. The market went extremely well and although we were new comers we seemed to get instant credibility through my girlfriend’s knowledge and my being English!! During my 5 years in France I’ve faced many challenges: learning the language, adjusting to the culture and coping with the civil servants to name a few. But during my time here I’ve also discovered some wonderful things: great food, great wine and….great tea!!! The latter is a little unusual I suppose, I’m an English man in France and it is the French that have introduced me to tea. Now obviously I’ve been drinking British tea for many years but it was my French girlfriend that allowed me to discover the wide variety of teas that exist: Chinese teas, Indian teas, Japanese teas, Kenyan teas, green teas, black teas, flavoured teas, tisanes, etc, etc. I’ve really got into them, so much so that I’ve set up a small business (using the new business registration called Auto Entrepreneur) called Nouveaux Thés. We have a web site that currently sells over 40 different teas and tisanes, and our other outlet will be via the open air market next to La Villette in Paris (once I’ve overcome another challenge of French bureaucracy!!)
